Rotary Youth Exchange
The most powerful force in the promotion of international understanding and peace is
exposure to different cultures. The world becomes a smaller, friendlier place when we
learn that all people
regardless of nationality desire the same basic things: a
safe, comfortable environment that allows for a rich and satisfying life for ourselves and
our children. Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to
meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures, thus planting the seeds for
a lifetime of international understanding.
Types of Exchanges
Each year, local Rotary districts and clubs worldwide arrange thousands of
international Youth Exchanges for high school-aged students. There are two principal types
of exchanges:
Long-term exchanges usually last for an academic year. During your stay,
you will live with more than one host family typically three different families for
three months each and attend high school. To view information about the
long-term exchanges going on in our district, click HERE.

Estelle Peltzer, 2004-2005 Exchange Student
from France, helps on work detail at Camp Anderson (Centennial Project).
Short-term exchanges vary from a few weeks to three months. You will not
attend school on a short-term exchange, but you will most likely live with a host family.

Marciel, Stockholm, Sweden, speak to The Rotary Club of Altoona about their Short Term
Exchange.
If you are between the ages of 15 -19 and are interested in
